When are worship services?
We worship in Le Mars (901 3rd Ave. SW) at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM on Sunday mornings.
At our Seney location, worship starts at 9:15 AM.
How can I get involved?
There are numerous
opportunities
to get involved at the United Methodist Church
of Le Mars(UMCL). You can also get involved beyond UMCL
in the Le Mars community
and beyond.
What do Methodists believe?
United Methodists profess the historic Christian faith,
the details of which can be found here.
What is expected of members?
The United Methodist Church, like Wesley himself, is concerned with opening
channels for grace to flow to people. The process of becoming like Christ
is that of learning to love God and neighbor. The United Methodist Church
of Le Mars is also built on the idea that true spirituality is found in being
filled up through spiritual formation and being poured out in service to others.
We seek to nurture the faith of people through experiences in the “means of grace”,
as Wesley called them: receiving Communion, worship, Bible study, prayer, and
small-group accountability. As we are transformed into the likeness of
Christ, we believe that our desire to serve humanity will grow. To grow
strong in the faith, we must “eat” through the means of grace and “exercise”
through acts of service to a world in need of hope.
Do you have Sunday School?
We offer many Christian Education
programs for children of all ages. Most of these are held on Wednesday evenings.
How long do worship services last?
The 8:00 AM worship service in Le Mars lasts approximately 45 minutes.
The Le Mars 10:45 AM service lasts approximately an hour.
How do you celebrate communion?
Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month. The table is
open to anyone who seeks to respond to God’s love and enter into a
relationship with Jesus Christ. We partake in the sacraments of Holy
Communion by taking the bread and dipping
it into a large chalice of wine and then eating the moistened bread.
Do you provide childcare during worship?
Yes, we do. Children are always welcome in our worship service,
however, childcare is provided for children 1st grade and younger.
At what age do you baptize people?
We celebrate God’s gift of grace to us through Jesus Christ in the baptism of
infants and children. We also celebrate entering a relationship with
God through Jesus Christ at Confirmation or in youth and adult baptism.
What do people wear to worship services?
Members of UMCL dress in casual to dressy attire, anything from denim to slacks,
sport coats and dresses to worship services. Our pastors wear suits,
and only wear robes for Easter Sunday and Christmas Eve services.
